About Summative

Our founder is Teresa Keeler …

a parent, an educator, and a curriculum junkie obsessed with school to college academic alignment and preparation.

Teresa has worked in education for almost 20 years, first in adult education and then in higher education, as both an administrator and faculty member. Her responsibilities have included teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses; mentoring traditional and non-traditional age college students; designing new undergraduate and graduate courses; developing training workshops for student and faculty groups; expanding the delivery of college offerings to high school students and working adults; assisting faculty in identifying programs to better meet newly identified market needs; analyzing network statistics to evaluate program performance relative to nationally established best practices; and conducting customized research projects for business and community organizations.

The pandemic forced Teresa to make tough choices about her teaching and her kids’ schooling. When the new academic year began, rather than return to campus, she choose to home school her youngest. Remote instruction had not worked for her family and Teresa wanted greater flexibility in what and how her kids were studying. The decision to home school launched Teresa into a whole new realm of curriculum and instruction, one in which she is very excited to be involved.

Teresa holds a doctorate in Communication and Information from Rutgers University, a masters in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelors in Economics from Stonehill College. In an effort to deliver higher quality instruction to her students during remote learning, she recently started coursework in Instructional Design at the University of Maine.

Our approach relies on research …

over long periods of time, diligent research will bring to light those things once hidden

based on Seneca, Natural Questions

Summative Learning believes that instructional activities, course designs, and school curriculum should be based on formalized investigations. Too often, educational decisions are based on flashy trends rather than diligent research. Summative Learning hopes to change discussions and decisions in the field of education by bringing to light current research on cognitive psychology, learning theory, and visual communication.
